Test

Overview

The Aptitude Test is a comprehensive measure of scholastic aptitude and proficiency in numerical, logical, and verbal abilities. Scores help ascertain the potential of candidates and their areas of strength and weaknesses. Typically, aptitude tests have been found to be highly effective in interventions that involve high volume input. The Aptitude Test can be used for hiring for all major roles within the organizational hierarchy, with varying levels of skills and difficulty.

Assessment takers are evaluated on their numerical ability, reasoning skills, verbal ability, etc. The Aptitude Test gauges how aptly the assessment taker is suited for a particular role and to predict how well they can perform certain tasks. It hence becomes a great predictor of learning and future success. Diversity in questions, Reliability of the scoring system and customization together contribute to make a good aptitude test. They objectively measure job fitment and ability to perform in a role.

Organizations engaged in hiring from colleges or universities, for example, often use aptitude assessments as a first level filtering mechanism that helps reduce the pool of potential job candidates and highlight those who have the potential to succeed in the given job roles. This has not only helped achieve better person-role-organization fit but has also enabled lower hiring costs and higher retention.

Test Description

A predetermined number of questions are presented to each participant. Jombay’s Randomization Algorithm ensures that the likelihood of two participants receiving identical test questions with answers in the same order is a statistical improbability.

The Aptitude Test provides the scores of a participant on all sections & an overall score. Participants can be ranked and those not scoring within a predetermined benchmark can be filtered out.

The standard offering can be combined with client content that can be uploaded on the platform as required. Both the time (overall and section wise) and the number of questions (overall and section wise) can be customized depending on the given requirement.

Standard Sections

The standard offering of the Aptitude Test consists of 60 questions across three main sections:

Logical Reasoning

This section is aimed at assessing an individual’s general reasoning skills.
This includes the ability to perceive relationships between two or more elements, analyze trends or patterns, & apply this to solve problems.

Numerical Reasoning

This section focuses on assessing an individual’s understanding of numerical concepts. This includes the ability to handle and manipulate numbers and operators and using this information to solve challenges.

Verbal Reasoning

This section focuses on an individual’s ability to understand concepts and frame words in a particular language.
It is aimed at measuring linguistic comprehension, fluency, and vocabulary at a defined level of proficiency.

Rigour of Tool

Our tools come with robust reliability and validity standards and are based on validated scientific theories and practices.

Reliability assesses the extent to which variation in test scores reflect true differences in ability between people (on the construct being measured) rather than random errors in measurement.

The Aptitude Test has an alternate forms reliability coefficient of 0.63 to 0.81. Here, a sample is administered two or more forms of the same assessment at different times. The tests are identical in every way except for the actual items included. By correlating the scores obtained at each instance, a coefficient of equivalence is determined. This indicates the consistency of results among two or more different forms of a test.

Alternate forms reliability was chosen as it helps overcome the effects of practice, memory, habituation, and fatigue that may confound results in the testing and retesting process.

Validity assesses the degree to which a scale measures the construct that it claims to measure. By thoroughly assessing the content and the constructs it measures, multiple subject matter experts have concluded that the Aptitude Test has high content validity. Content validity is the extent to which an assessment “covers” the construct of interest. The experts carefully checked each item and section to ensure that it accurately and adequately measured the given construct of scholastic aptitude.

Jombay Assessments have defined a global set of norms that include all data across industries, functions, and experience levels. For each assessment, Industry-Function-Experience level combinations are derived for norms with significant population data. Norming has been done at the trait level and is based on the mean and standard deviation for each sample. A data of at least 100 respondents per combination is considered as a significant population for generating norms. Norms are defined by taking the mean and the standard deviation of the sample’s scores and dividing the sample into 6 buckets. Jombay norm data is annually updated.

Jombay is committed to ensuring that its tests are of the highest quality and rigor and developed to be unbiased and culture fair. All items in this assessment use simple language that is easily understandable, are gender neutral, and are comprehensively evaluated during the development process.
Jombay ensures that its products are not offensive or controversial, do not reinforce stereotypical views of any group, are free of racial, ethnic, gender, socioeconomic, or other forms of bias, and are free of content believed to be inappropriate or derogatory towards any group.
