Are children ‘growing up’ too fast these days?
Sometimes my kids aren’t fully clued into their classroom gossip.
They aren’t buttering their teachers.
They don’t spend too much time on gadgets.
They are clueless about dining at fancy restaurants.
Their reactions are nowhere close to how grown-ups react.
Please note - I don’t mean that they are not “well behaved”. 9 out of 10 times they put on their best behavior “as a child”. What I mean is they are not “too grown up”; they don't yet understand diplomacy, they aren’t still very “figured out”.
I am often told - “Your kids are so innocent!”
Irrespective of how it is actually being said, I always take this as a MASSIVE compliment :)
Like many many other parents, I wish time would slow down. I wish my children would stay children, a little bit longer. I want to bottle up their innocence and their sense of curiosity. I want to protect them from having their imagination knocked out of them!
So every time someone reminds me that our kids are well ‘behind’ the curve in terms of behaving ‘grown up’, I sigh with relief.
In fact, us adults could do with being a little more child-like. Happy Children's Day to all of you - hold on to that innocence, wonder and curiosity :)
